Wasn't there some league that had models for prizes?
I think they got them painted according to the skin of the winner.
It was a single-seater. Maybe it was either the BF1 or the FBM. I quess both have already been made into models as they are real cars.

I wouldn't mind owning a scale model of some LfS car.

Actually many modern cars, especially the hybrid ones, Shut down the engine when you stop. It starts up again as you press the accelerator to start moving again.

Heaven knows what this does to your starter/battery/lubrication etc.
Nothing very good I assume.

So for LFS to be realistic it should automatically start the engine when you press the accelerator.

Thank you all for your input.

Ian, it's for automotive engineering. I'll get some cradits from it. I'm gonna be an engineer... well sometime in the future anyway. 30 and studying...

Quote from Hyperactive :By drive axle, what do you actually need to design, march hare?

I'll get the details next week but as far as I know now the whole shebang.

From diff to hub. Good thing I'm on a driveline cource right now.

The two important things are:
  1. weight
  2. weight
Well cost is there somewhere but...

That's what I thought. Steel tube is the only solution that makes sense. Have get some info about alloys though.

The weight reduction that is gained by using tube instead of rod is huge! It can be 50%!

In Finland it is illegal to have your engine idle longer than 2 minutes. 4 if the temperature is below -15 centigrade.

So atleast to us finns it is realistic that the car doesn't idle that long.

The auto_idle_cut has only affected me after race or while chatting.

So not a problem while racing. And as you all should know LfS is a racing sim.

I think I'll go with the CF. This is supposed to be a sports car so it must be light.

How is the elasticity of CF?

Maybe I'll just use some steel tube. Or maybe titanium!

Maybe not titanium because it's supposed to be a limited edition sports car. Only a few hundered produced but still affordable. For the rich enthusiast atleast.
Designing a drive axle for a sports car

I have to design the drive axles for a sports car.

I'll be getting the details next week but for now it seems I have to do the lot. From calculating the stresses and simulation to selecting the materials. I don't have to do the actual machining but that's about it.

Has any of you had a similar project? Any help would be appreciated.

You are just full of it.
Atleast one of your friends has got to have a credit card. And earning a measily 36e is a piece of pie.

Or go answer DK's voucher thread.

Hell yes! for bumpy grass.

Don't know about the Nauruvians language pack. Are there many LfSers on Nauru?

YAY! Long live the thread about... erm... something or other.

And can you quess what kind of LFSer bumped this one...

The reason you want to change AFTER the torque curves cross is:

You start slowing down the instant you disconnect the drive. No matter what gearbox you have, or how you change, there is always a short delay before the drive is restored. The car decelerates(sp?) during that time and if you change at the cross over point the RPM will drop below the optimum for the next gear.

Now, if you "over rev" it and change after the cross over point the RPM is right for the next gear to provide the maximum acceleration.

IF the gear changes were instant and the drive wouldn't be disconnected, then the cross over point would give the max acceleration.

The amount of over revving depends on the time the drive is disconnected and the deceleration of the vehicle.

I would check the wheels too for damage. Also you might want to check the alignment.

Quote from Marcus56 :I LOVE THE BEST FUN, LFS. LFS A WINNER. LFS THEY NO PEOPLE PAYING CUSTOMER REAL MONEY PAY TO PLAY! WELL NO. WE CAN SAY NO PEOPLE LOSS IN BUSINESS LFS IN THE WORLD $$$$. PEOPLE DON'T CARE IF YOU HAVE SPENT YOUR MONEY AND THE LAST YEAR OR SO TRYING TO GET A WORLD RECORD, WE JUST CHANGED THE RULES FOR THE GLIMMER OF THE ALL MIGHTY DOLLAR FOR HERE AND NOW

Maybe that is his point. Took out all the babble that wasn't in CAPS and tried to put in some punctuation.

Do you know anything about racing?
Do you think that Formula 1 still has the same cars and rules it did 50 years ago? How about Rally? DTM? LeMans? Touring car series like the BTCC?

And for the record, I don't think they changed the game so that they'd get more shiny dollars. They changed it to be more accurate.

About Finnish - Japanese funny stuff.

At one time we had a foreign minister... or was it prime minister... by the name of Esko Aho.

Esko is a man's name in Finnish but a woman's in Japanese because it ends with "O".

Now aho is Japanese for crazy.

So our minister was a crazy bitch.
